Chirgilchin at The Old Church 05/17/19
Chirgilchin is a group of Tuvan musicians performing traditional Tuvan music. They are masters at both the instrumentation and complex practice of throat singing, where the performer sings one pitch, and them simultaneously adds overtones in one or more pitches. The pitch harmonics and manipulations in tone and rhythm are unbelievable! The sounds are very evocative and sometimes a bit otherworldly when you realize they are coming from a human throat. Often mimicking nature ---sounds of animals, wind and water--- listening to them sing you can drift away on drones or get caught in what sounds like a joyful herd of animals moving out over pasture and rejoicing under an unbroken sunlit sky.
Tuva is a small Russian province north of Western Mongolia. Chirgilchin's music tells stories of their homeland, its horses and its people. You can find their music at www.purenaturalmusic.com
